Dr. Koyal Garg, an Indian associate professor of Biomedical Engineering at Saint Louis University, Missouri, US, has been named a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) for her groundbreaking work in regenerative medicine.

Garg’s research focuses on developing bio-inspired materials that serve as templates and delivery vehicles for stem cells, cellular products, biomolecules, and pharmaceuticals to treat volumetric muscle loss (VML). Her work has led to the creation of innovative solutions to improve the regenerative capacity of skeletal muscle following trauma.

She has secured over $2.5 million in external research funding and published more than 50 research papers and book chapters, with two patent applications.

Dr. Garg’s work is also part of a commercial venture with GenAssist, a company developing MyoMatrix, a product aimed at replacing lost muscle tissue following severe injuries.
