Indian shooters maintained a winning streak at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023 in Changwon, the Republic of Korea. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Manisha Keer and Prithviraj Tondaiman’s remarkable performances bagged India 55 medals at the events held from October 22 to November 2.
Tomar scored a 463.5 in the final against People’s Republic of China's Tian Jiaming and Du Linshu, who secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively. With this win, Tomar became India's most successful shooter at the Asian Games 2023, with a total of four medals to his name.
In the mixed trap team event, Keer and Tondaiman’s duo clinched the gold with a combined score of 141. Furthermore, in the non-Olympic shooting event of 25m centre fire pistol, Pradeep Singh Shekhawat secured an individual bronze and added a silver in the team event along with Prabhjot Singh and Yogesh Singh. The Indian trio had a combined score of 1737.
The Sports Authority of India congratulated Tomar, writing on X, “Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar - A Golden Aim! What a sensational victory at the 15th Asian Shooting Championship! #TOPScheme shooter Aishwary wins Gold in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, with an impressive score of 463.5 in the final! Huge congratulations to the champion! Your dedication and excellence in the shooting range have made India proud.”
Among the Indian shooters, Shriyanka Sadangi, Anish Bhanwala, Manu Bhaker, Arjun Babuta, Tilottama Sen, and Sarabjot Singh earned the Paris Olympics quotas, contributing to India's overall tally of 13 quotas in shooting for the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, final participation will be confirmed after National Olympic Committees' selections.
