In a tragic incident over the Independence Day weekend a student from Telangana, India, drowned at Barberville Falls, New York.
The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Sai Surya Avinash Gadde, a student at Trine University. The incident occurred on July 7, when Gadde visited the popular tourist spot, his body was recovered the same day.
The Consulate General of India in New York confirmed the news and expressed their condolences. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Sai Surya Avinash Gadde, a student at Trine University, who drowned on 7th July at Barberville Falls, Albany, NY.Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” the consulate said in a post on X.

The Indian Consulate is providing the necessary assistance to Gadde’s family, including issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to transport his remains back to India.
"Two men swimming got into trouble, following which multiple crews came to the rescue," local media reported, citing the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office. According to the report, while one man was rescued by a samaritan, Gadde was found lifeless.
Local authorities, including the state dive team, responded to the incident and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Gadde's death is part of a disturbing trend of untimely deaths among Indian students in the United States.
In response to these incidents, the Consulate General of India in New York has launched a new initiative to support Indian students studying in the US.
