Abdul's passing is the most recent in a series of incidents involving Indian or Indian-origin students in the US. He marks the 11th Indian to have died in the US in 2024, with eight of them being students.
On Apr. 5, the Indian Consulate reported the passing of Uma Satya Sai Gadde in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to that, on Mar. 18, Abhijeeth Paruchuru, an Indian student in Boston, also passed away.
Among the eight students who have passed away, 25-year-old Vivek Saini was fatally attacked by a homeless drug addict, while 27-year-old Venkataramana Pittala lost his life in a watercraft accident. The causes of death for several other students are still under investigation and have yet to be confirmed.
