The family of a 24-year-old Indian international student found dead in a vehicle in South Vancouver has launched a fundraising campaign to repatriate his remains.
Chirag Antil was killed while sitting in his car on April 12, near the intersection of East 55th Avenue and Main Street. According to media reports, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) was alerted to the sound of gunfire around 11 p.m. after receiving reports from nearby residents.
Antil arrived in Vancuver from Haryana, India in 2022, the GoFundMe page stated. He recently completed his MBA at the University of Canada West and had a work permit.
“Chirag Antil, an international student from, who arrived in Vancouver in 2022 for his studies, tragically lost his life due to a recent murder in the city. We urgently need assistance to raise funds for sending his body back to India,” his brother Anurag Dahiya said on the page. “If you are in Vancouver and able to offer any support or help, please reach out to us”
Romit Antil, Chirag's brother from Haryana, Sonipat, characterized Chirag as a gentle individual without any known adversaries. Despite their earnest appeals for information, Romit expressed frustration with the lack of communication from the police, leaving them uninformed about the details surrounding Chirag's passing.
The family is particularly troubled by the lack of transparency in the investigation and the absence of any footage related to the incident, further intensifying their distress."We just want closure. We urge the Canadian government to expedite the process of repatriating my brother's body so we can find some peace," Romit expressed.
