The Indian Tricolour (Tiranga) has ranked 18 on the "25 Countries with the Most Beautiful Flags in the World" list.
The list, curated by Insider Monkey, assigned the countries a score depending on the number of times a flag was recognized by articles in websites like Ranker, Forbes, Snapboxie, A Rai of Light, News18, and Reddit threads among others. The Indian Flag secured the 18th position with a score of 8.
“India's flag, also known as the Tiranga, features three horizontal stripes of saffron, white, and green, with a navy blue Ashoka Chakra (wheel) at its center. Each color holds significant meaning: saffron represents courage and sacrifice, white symbolizes peace and truth, and green stands for faith and fertility. The Ashoka Chakra, inspired by the Lion Capital of Ashoka, represents the eternal wheel of law,” the list stated.
Japan secured the first rank with a score of 18 followed by Canada (17), Brazil (15), South Africa (15) and Nepal (13). Portugal secured the 17th rank, ahead of India, and France secured the 19th rank.
According to the publication, a nation's flag not only acts as a visual emblem of its identity, cultural heritage, and principles but also wields considerable influence over its overall image. It has the ability to evoke sentiments, communicate ideas, and shape public opinions.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) suggested that nations with visually captivating flags often draw larger crowds of international visitors. Additionally, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) highlights that countries leveraging their flags as potent tourism symbols typically witness elevated rates of growth in both tourist influx and economic revenues.
