A high-level Canadian delegation, led by Scott Moe, premier of Saskatchewan province, recently held a meeting with Union Minister of Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh to discuss bilateral collaboration and potential joint ventures.
The discussions encompassed various areas including electric vehicles, cyber-physical systems, quantum technologies, future manufacturing, green hydrogen fuel, and deep ocean mining.
Singh highlighted India's sizable diaspora in Canada, totaling 2.3 million, and their notable representation in the Canadian Parliament and the cabinet to demonstrate the enduring relationship between the two nations. He further underscored their positive contributions to both countries and their role as a bridge between India and Canada.
Additionally, Singh noted Canada's popularity among Indian students for higher education. During the delegation’s India visit, the Premier renewed an agreement between the Government of Saskatchewan and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) to build upon and strengthen the academic and global ties between Saskatchewan and India.
The Indian Minister expressed India's eagerness to foster research partnerships with Canadian R&D institutions and collaborate with Canadian industries, particularly in areas such as sustainable energy, clean technologies, bioeconomy, food and agriculture, affordable healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and the integration of AI and machine learning across various domains.
In response, Moe remarked that the relationship between Canada and India has progressed significantly in recent years, becoming truly multidimensional. He emphasized that cooperation in science and technology serves as a strategic pillar in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
According to him, academic institutions, research organizations, and industries in both countries have forged strong bonds, acting as catalysts in advancing strategic research and development partnerships.
The Canadian premier also highlighted the growing relationship between India and Saskatchewan, particularly since the opening of their office in Delhi, underscoring their commitment to collaborating with India to achieve mutual growth.
