Vinesh is poised to become the first Indian woman wrestler to gain a silver or gold medal at the Olympic Games. In 2016, Sakshi Malik made history as the first Indian woman wrestler to secure an Olympic medal at the Rio Games. Both Sakshi and Vinesh belong to Haryana.
In the final of the competition, Vinesh will face off against her American opponent, Sarah Ann Hildebrandt. Vinesh and Sarah recorded identical 5-0 wins over their opponents. While Vinesh got the better of Cuban Guzman Lopez Yusneylis, Sarah defeated Mongolian Otgonjargel Dolgorjav.
