The founder of the Facebook group Indians in Sydney, a platform for the Indian-Australian community, Nadeem Ahmed, has been honored with the NSW Government Community Service Award.

The award recognizes his efforts to unify and uplift the Indian-Australian diaspora. It was presented with the endorsement of Nathan Hagarty MP, a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Leppington, acknowledging Ahmed’s dedication to strengthening community bonds through various initiatives

Reflecting on the award, Ahmed took to his Linkedin to express his gratitude, saying, “I am truly humbled and deeply grateful to receive the NSW Government Community Service Award. This recognition is not just mine but belongs to every single person who has been part of this incredible journey with Indians in Sydney.”

Since its founding in 2007, Indians in Sydney have grown to connect over 135,000 people. Through initiatives such as the Winter Drive, the Meal for Everyone Drive, and the Indians in Sydney Gala Event, Ahmed has created a platform for cultural exchange and community support.

“When I started this community, it was with the hope of creating a space where we could support each other, share our stories, and build a home away from home. Little did I know it would grow into something so much bigger than myself,” Ahmed said.

Ahmed emphasized that this recognition motivates him to continue his efforts. “This award reminds me that the work is far from over. There are still so many lives to touch, and I feel blessed to be a small part of this journey,” he added.

In a social media post, Indians in Sydney celebrated Ahmed’s achievement, noting, "Nadeem’s commitment to making a difference has truly transformed countless lives through Indians in Sydney. His dedication to improving the lives of our community members through his compassionate leadership is remarkable."
