India’s consulate in Seattle now operational
Gupta played a pivotal role in piloting the International Day of Yoga Resolution at the United Nations.

India's sixth diplomatic mission in the United States has become operational in Seattle. IFS (Indian Foreign Service) officer Prakash Gupta has joined the office as its first Consul General.
The office is situated at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, 411 University Street, Seattle. The other five consulates are located in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New York and San Francisco.
Expressing delight on meeting Gupta in Washington DC, India's Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu shared a post on social media.
The Consulate General of India in Seattle will provide services for nine states under its jurisdiction, including Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming.
Gupta previously served in various capacities in Beijing, Shanghai, Jakarta and the Indian Mission to the United Nations in New York.
According to the website of the Consulate General of India, Seattle, Gupta's recent assignment in New Delhi included his stewardship of India’s tenure at the UN Security Council (2021-22). He also played a pivotal role in piloting the International Day of Yoga Resolution at the United Nations.
He was also a part of the preparations for India’s hosting of the successful G20 Summit in New Delhi. He served as Joint Secretary (United Nations – Political issues) from August 2020 to November 2023, covering India’s UN Security Council innings for 2021-22 and multilateral issues related to NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) and the Commonwealth.
Born on December 27, 1978, Gupta earned a post-graduate and is a gold medalist in English Literature.
Other Consulate officials include: Suresh K Sharma, Consul/ Head of Chancery; Mohit Sheeshwal, Executive Assistant to Consul General; and Pradeep Saini, Assistant Section Officer (Admin/Consular).
