India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit the United States from Aug. 23 to 26, 2024, at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
The visit underscores the growing momentum in the India-U.S. defense relationship and aims to further strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
During his visit, Singh will hold a bilateral meeting with Austin to discuss key issues of mutual interest, including defense cooperation, regional security, and strategic ties. The meeting comes as both nations seek to bolster their defense engagements amid a rapidly evolving global security environment.
In addition to his meeting with Austin, the minister will also confer with Jake Sullivan, the U.S. National Security Advisor. This meeting is expected to cover a broad spectrum of security issues, with a particular focus on enhancing Indo-U.S. collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region, the Defense ministry said in a statement.
As part of his official visit, Singh will chair a high-level roundtable discussion with leaders from the U.S. defense industry. The discussion will focus on ongoing and future defense collaborations, exploring new avenues for cooperation in defense manufacturing and technology.
Singh is also scheduled to meet with members of the Indian community, and address the Indian diaspora in the U.S., further strengthening the ties between India and its diaspora.
This visit marks another step in deepening the strategic partnership between India and the U.S., reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to peace, stability, and security in the region and beyond.
