India's first 3D printed Post Office inaugurated in Bengaluru

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology, inaugurated the world's first 3D-printed post office in Cambridge Layout, east Bengaluru. This revolutionary building represents India's first application of 3D printing technology to build commercial structures.
Applauding the initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted,"Every Indian would be proud to see India's first 3D printed Post Office at Cambridge Layout, Bengaluru. A testament to our nation's innovation and progress, it also embodies the spirit of a self-reliant India. Compliments to those who have worked hard in ensuring the Post Office's completion."
The post office is 1,000 square feet in size ,was originally scheduled to take 45 days to complete, but it was completed in just 43 days. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras provided structural design assistance to the construction team. An emerging technology, 3D concrete printing has the potential to transform construction practices by quickening the construction process and enhancing overall build quality, Larsen and Toubro Construction, which was the firm behind the project said.
"Using a robotic printer, 3D printing technology deposits concrete layer-by-layer in accordance with the 3D model drawing input. The process requires a delicate balance of concrete properties, including flowability, quick hardening for load-bearing capacity, green concrete status for inter-layer bonding, and sufficient strength to ensure successful printing," a statement by the construction firm said.
