India's longest sea bridge to open on January 12
The MTHL was supposed to be inaugurated on December 25, but it missed its deadline due to construction delays.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) in Maharashtra, which is poised to be India's longest sea bridge, will be inaugurated on January 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the event.
The MTHL project is expected to shorten travel times between Mumbai's Sewri and the Raigad district's Nhava Sheva neighborhood. The six-lane, 13.6 miles-long MTHL, connecting Mumbai’s Sewri to Navi Mumbai’s Chirle, will cater to 70,000 vehicles daily. Of the entire length, 3.4 miles are on land and 10.2 miles are above sea level.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS and commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), recently carried out an extensive inspection of the project.
”The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project is a significant milestone in the development of our region. It will not only enhance connectivity but also contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the area,” he said. “I am pleased to witness the remarkable progress achieved, and I commend the efforts of all the stakeholders involved in making this project a reality.”
On the Navi Mumbai end of the bridge, there will be interchanges at Sewri, Shivaji Nagar, Jassi, and Chirle on National Highway 4B. It would also connect to the busy Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
The construction of the bridge officially began in 2018. After passing its load-carrying capacity tests, the bridge is ready for vehicular traffic. While it was supposed to be inaugurated on December 25, it missed its deadline due to construction delays.
Considering the dense population of the financial capital of Mumbai, the bridge is expected to alleviate traffic at several entry points to the city and improve connectivity across nearby cities. The bridge can also reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai by 30-45 minutes during peak traffic hours.
