Ishan Sharma, a basketball prodigy from India who currently calls Canada home, will be playing for the University of Virginia in the coming season. The highly regarded 6'5" shooting guard from the Fort Erie International Academy in Fort Erie, Ontario, who is a member of the class of 24 made his pledge public on social media on October 21. Just a week before, the Cavaliers had extended a scholarship offer to him.

During the Nike EYBL Peach Jam this summer, Cavaliers Coach Tony Bennett and his staff took notice of Sharma's shooting talent, according to SI.com. He showed a great ability to make jumpers from beyond the arc during this summer's EYBL tour, keeping a phenomenal success percentage of close to 45% for UPLAY Canada.

According to SI, Sharma had recently visited UVA. He expressed his excitement by posting, ‘Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Virginia,’ on his X account on October 16 after the visit.

According to reports, he also received offers from Virginia Tech, a rival school from the same state as the Cavaliers, and Seton Hall, Arizona State, Rice, Indiana State, Wyoming, Northern Illinois, Marist, Maine, and Eastern Michigan.

A college basketball specialist believes Sharma and the Cavaliers may be a wonderful match because of Sharma's fearsome shooting presence.

Sharma becomes Virginia's second verbal commit in the recruiting class of 2024, joining four-star forward Jacob Cofie, who committed to UVA in September.
