INS Tushil, the Indian Navy’s newest multi-role stealth-guided missile frigate, hosted the Indian diaspora during its maiden operational deployment to London, showcasing India’s maritime prowess and cultural heritage.

During its first port call to London on Dec. 21, Commodore R. Bellfield, Naval Regional Commander (NRC LEE), visited INS Tushil and engaged in a discussion with Captain Peter Varghese, the Commanding Officer, on matters of mutual interest.

The event brought together many Indian expatriates and local community members, underscoring the strong ties between India and the UK.

India’s Deputy High Commissioner to the UK, Sujit Ghosh, and Commodore Sanjay Pote, Naval Attaché in London, were among the dignitaries who visited the ship. The vessel was also opened to the public, allowing visitors to explore its advanced capabilities and connect with India’s naval heritage.

As part of its operational deployment, INS Tushil's visit to London marks its inaugural port call. In the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Tushil was commissioned on Dec.9. The frigate represents the latest in the Indian Navy’s fleet.

An upgraded Krivak III-class frigate is the seventh in the Project 1135.6 series and the first of two upgraded follow-on ships constructed under a 2016 contract signed between JSC Rosoboronexport, the Indian Navy, and Indian Government.

The port call comes shortly after the second India-UK 2+2 Foreign and Defence Dialogue held in New Delhi on Dec.3, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations.

Sharing the moment on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Navy highlighted: "The ship was also kept open to visitors & hosted the Indian diaspora & local community in large numbers. The Deputy High Commissioner of India @sujitjoyghosh, and Cmde Sanjay Pote, NA, London also visited the ship."

The initiative celebrated India’s maritime achievements and strengthened ties with the UK’s Indian community.
