ISRO to launch INSAT-3DS satellite
The satellite will improve meteorological observations.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the meteorological satellite INSAT-3DS on February 17, 2024, to improve meteorological observations and aid in more accurate weather forecasting and disaster warning.
Taking to X, ISRO announced that the satellite will be launched aboard the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle F14 (GSLV F14).
"The launch of the GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS mission is set for Saturday, February 17, at 5:30pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR at Sriharikota," stated ISRO.
The Indian space agency underlined that the goal of the GSLV's sixteenth mission is to place the meteorological satellite INSAT-3DS into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). The satellite will be placed in a Geo-Stationary Orbit by a series of orbit-raising procedures.
The satellite will improve meteorological observations and track land and ocean surfaces for weather forecasts and disaster alerts. Additionally, it will monitor Earth's surface, conduct oceanic observations, provide atmospheric parameters, collect and disseminate data, and offer satellite-assisted search and rescue services.
In addition to the current in-operation INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR satellites, the ISRO claims that the satellite will enhance meteorological services.
