Indian American community leader Jag Nagendra has announced his candidacy for California's Folsom City Council District 3 in the 2026 election.
Currently serving as the principal Hydroelectric Power Utility engineer at the California Department of Water Resources, Nagendra has over 35 years of experience across corporate, public, and community sectors.
In his current role he oversees critical operations for control systems, communication, and energy management. Leading a team of over 70 engineers and IT professionals, he ensures the seamless functioning of major programs and projects.
“My experience spans startups to Fortune 100 companies, and my work has equipped me to navigate the complexities of organizational leadership in multicultural environments,” Nagendra said. “I bring this rich and diverse experience to the table as I work to make Folsom a safe, inclusive, and thriving community.”
Nagendra’s campaign emphasizes public safety, economic growth, support for small businesses, and cultural inclusivity. His leadership has been shaped by roles in both India and the United States, where he gained insights into fostering innovation and sustainability.
In addition to his professional achievements, Nagendra has served on commissions in Davis and Sacramento County, gaining experience in economic development, planning, resource management, and community engagement. He has also been an active volunteer for organizations supporting cultural and community needs in Folsom.
“Folsom has tremendous potential, and I am committed to ensuring it becomes a place where families and businesses flourish,” Nagendra said.
Nagendra’s educational qualifications include leadership training programs from California State University, Sacramento, and certifications in effective communication and emotional intelligence from Dale Carnegie Training and UC Irvine. He also holds a diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the State Board of Technical Education and Training, India, where he served as vice president of the Electronics Club and organized national educational tours.
