Jaipur Foot celebrates PM Modi's birthday in NY

The celebrations highlighted his leadership and global impact.

The Jaipur Foot USA, a subsidiary of the world’s largest organization for the differently-abled, Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), commonly known as Jaipur Foot, celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday with a special event in New York.

Hosted in collaboration with BRUHUD, one of the largest organizations for seniors in New York, the occasion featured a millet-based lunch in honor of BMVSS founder and chief patron, Dr. D.R. Mehta, who is currently on a ten-day visit to the United States.

The lunch was held at SAAR, a Indian restaurant near Times Square, which was the first Indian restaurant in New York to introduce a millet menu last year, following the initiative of Jaipur Foot USA and the Indian Consulate in New York. This was in response to the United Nations declaring 2023 as the "International Year of Millets" at the request of Prime Minister Modi.

Speaking on the occasion, Prem Bhandari, chairman of Jaipur Foot USA, extended best wishes to Prime Minister Modi on his 74th birthday and dubbed him as India's most consequential Prime Minister.

Bhandari noted that in Modi's ten years in office, he has emerged as one of the world's most influential leaders. He highlighted Modi's unique ability to maintain strong relationships with both U.S. and Russian leadership, stating, "We pray for his long and healthy life, as both India and the world need his leadership now more than ever."

Bhandari also highlighted how BMVSS founded by Mehta in 1975 has benefitted over 2.2 million differently-abled individuals across 43 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America through 109 completely free artificial limb fitment camps known as ‘Jaipur Foot.’

Out of these, 28 camps have been fully sponsored by the Government of India under the ‘India for Humanity’ initiative, for which Bhandari expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi.

Under the initiative launched to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, has organized 28 international camps, with the 29th camp scheduled to take place in Mongolia. The Jaipur Foot team is set to depart for Mongolia on September 22.
