Republican Vice Presidential nominee, JD Vance has defended his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, after she was the target of a racial attack by white supremacist Nick Fuentes.
Since Vance was chosen as Donald Trump's running mate, his Indian-American wife has been subjected to severe scrutiny and racist attacks because of her heritage.
Fuentes, who previously dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago in 2022, made derogatory comments about Usha several weeks ago. “Who is this guy, really? Do we really expect that the guy who has an Indian wife and named their kid Vivek is going to support white identity?” Fuentes had said.
Responding to his remark, Vance told ABC’s Jonathan Karl on Sunday’s The Week.“Look, my attitude to these people attacking my wife is, she’s beautiful, she’s smart. What kind of man marries Usha? A very smart man and a very lucky man, importantly,” he said.
“And my view is, look, if these guys want to attack me or attack my views, my policy views, my personality, come after me. But don’t attack my wife. She’s out of your league,” the Republican senator added.
Jonathan Karl, co-anchor of "This Week," pointed out that Fuentes had dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago in 2022. Trump later claimed that Fuentes was brought by rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and that he was unaware of who Fuentes was.
“Well, Donald Trump doesn’t know anything about, and frankly, doesn’t care for [Fuentes],” Vance responded.
