JITO celebrates Jain festivals with Indian Embassy in DC

The celebration paid tribute to Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, honoring Lord Mahavir’s timeless teachings of non-violence, truthfulness, and compassion.

The Jain International Trade Organization (JITO), Washington DC Chapter, in collaboration with the Embassy of India in DC, hosted a special celebration of Vishwa Navkar Mantra Divas and Mahavir Janma Kalyanak on Apr. 9.

The evening began with a warm reception and community dinner, uniting community members, spiritual leaders and dignitaries. The formal program officially began with a dance performance by Kavya Zaveri and Harshvi Shah on the Navkar Mantra.

The celebration paid tribute to Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, honoring Lord Mahavir’s timeless teachings of non-violence, truthfulness, and compassion. His message, centered on spiritual awakening and care for all living beings, was echoed throughout the evening’s reflections. At the end of the program, the audience recited the Navkar Mantra to mark the occasion with a sense of unity and peace.

Bhupesh Mehta, chairman of JITO USA Washington DC, in a statement said it was an honor to celebrate Vishwa Navkar Mantra Divas and Mahavir Janma Kalyanak at the Embassy of India. “The Jain values of non-violence, truth and compassion are universal and guides us toward a better and more peaceful world.” Mehta said JITO aims to bring these principles into global initiatives and make a meaningful impact.

Dr Sushil Jain, chairman of JITO USA, said the organization has always been a platform that connects values with action. “We are focused on nurturing leadership, encouraging ethical entrepreneurship, and supporting business development.” Jain shared that their goal is to promote sustainable growth while ensuring that their business practices reflect the core Jain values of non-violence, truth and compassion. 

A closed group meeting was also organized for community leaders to meet with the Ambassador of India, Vinay Mohan Kwatra. The JITO Washington DC leadership team – Dr Sushil Jain, Bhupesh Mehta, Rahul Jain, Minal Shah, Renuka Jain, Sharad Doshi and Gita Shah – recognized and honored the Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Jag Mohan, and Jigar Raval for their support in strengthening community relations and promoting Indian culture and values.
