Justin Trudeau extends Indian Independence Day greetings
Canadian PM Trudeau's heartfelt wishes on India's Independence Day highlighted strong ties and shared values
As India celebrated its 77th Independence Day on August 15, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau conveyed his wishes to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He recognized India’s contributions in shaping Canada's identity and fostering prosperity.
Referring to India as the world's largest democracy, Trudeau reiterated the shared values of democracy, pluralism, and advancement. He emphasized the commitment to strengthening this collaborative history, including during India's G20 presidency this year.
Trudeau acknowledged that Canada hosts one of the world's largest Indian diasporas, with nearly 1.4 million individuals of Indian origin contributing significantly to communities nationwide. “Canada is home to one of the largest Indian diasporas in the world, with nearly 1.4 million people of Indian descent living in our communities from coast to coast.”
Extending wishes to the Indo-Canadian community he said, “These communities are an integral part of Canada’s national identity, and today we recognize their valuable contributions, past and present, that have made our country stronger, more prosperous, and more inclusive.”
In his statement. the Prime Minister expressed his intention to work with India to preserve the rules-based international order, promote multilateralism, and grow our economic ties to benefit people in both our countries as well as the Indo-Pacific region."On behalf of the Government of Canada, I extend my best wishes to all celebrating India's Independence Day," Trudeau concluded.
