Kamala Harris calls for action after Justice Dept Uvalde report reveals failures
The Department of Justice report underlined "critical failures" by Texas police.

Vice President Kamala Harris in a statement expressed condolences over the death of 19 children and two teachers who lost their lives in the tragic Uvalde School shooting in Texas last year.
Her reaction was in response to a Department of Justice report that highlighted "critical failures" by Texas police during the time of the incident. According to the report, authorities remained in a hallway or outside the Robb Elementary school until the gunmen shot dozens of people in two classrooms.
Harris described the incident as a horrific act carried out with a "weapon of war.” She applauded the families of victims for transforming their grief into advocacy, demanding accountability and meaningful action to address the alarming reality of gun violence.
“Working with gun safety organizers and advocates including young leaders across the country, we have also taken more executive action to reduce gun violence than any other Administration in history. This includes establishing the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. But we know more must be done,” the Vice President said in a statement.
Responding to the Justice Department report, Harris called attention to the critical need for further action. In her plea to Congress and state legislators, she urged the concerned authorities to exhibit courage and act “by banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, passing red flag laws, and making background checks universal.”
