Kamala Harris lauds Ohio voters for protecting reproductive rights
She stressed the critical importance of passing a bill to protect people's freedom of choice and fundamental rights when it comes to their healthcare.
Vice President Kamala Harris issued a statement celebrating the decision of the Ohio voters to support women's reproductive freedom. Ohio became the seventh state where voters decided to protect abortion access after the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling.
It serves to prevent the enforcement of abortion ban that would have had detrimental effects on women's healthcare and criminalize medical practitioners. The VP emphasized the significance of Ohio's decision, highlighting that there shouldn’t be political intervention in deeply personal decisions that individuals make in consultation with their healthcare providers.
Harris added, “Since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, people across the country have voted to defend reproductive freedom every time it has appeared on the ballot – including in Kansas, California, Michigan, Montana, Kentucky, and Vermont.”
A trend evident in states, such as Kansas, California, Michigan, Montana, Kentucky, and Vermont, Harris highlighted the growing resistance of extremists and their “pushing for a national abortion ban that would criminalize reproductive health care in every single state.”
She stressed the critical importance of passing a bill to protect people's freedom of choice and fundamental rights when it comes to their healthcare.
