The Flower Mound Town Council in Texas has awarded Indian American dancer Kirti Patel the 2024 Outstanding Citizenship Award in the individual category recognizing her contributions to the town’s cultural and social life.
For over 15 years, Patel has united residents through celebrations of Holi and Diwali and founded Dancing Diva, a group of around 50 women who use dance to foster cultural awareness and community connections.
Her efforts extend to volunteering with senior programs and mentoring youth, creating a positive impact across generations. This year alone, Patel received more than 20 nominations for the award, highlighting the depth of her influence in the community.
As part of the recognition, she was awarded a one-year membership to the Community Activity Center, a VIP pass to Independence Fest 2025, and invitations to town events throughout the year. Her name will also be featured on a plaque displayed at Town Hall.
Other honorees include Samadhi Basnayake, recognized in the youth category for her music therapy contributions to elderly residents, and the Flower Mound New Century Lions Club, awarded for their environmental and community service initiatives.
