Kush Desai, an Indian-American and a former journalist has been appointed as Deputy Press Secretary for the White House Office of Communications.
President Donald Trump announced key appointments to the White House Office of Communications, Public Liaison, and Cabinet Affairs on Jan. 24. These positions will be overseen by Taylor Budowich, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications and Public Liaison, and the Cabinet Secretary.
Desai, in his role as the Deputy Press Secretary, will help manage the White House's messaging strategy and public communications.
Desai brings a wealth of experience from his time as Deputy Battleground States & Pennsylvania Communications Director at the Republican National Committee (RNC).
He also played key roles as Deputy Communications Director for the 2024 Republican National Convention and Communications Director for the Republican Party of Iowa.
Desai has completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College.
In addition to Desai's appointment, President Trump also announced several other key positions within the White House communications team:
- Alex Pfeiffer has been appointed as Deputy Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy Communications Director at the White House.
- Kaelan Dorr will be returning to the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Communications Director.
- Harrison Fields will also be returning to the White House, taking on the role of Special Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy Press Secretary.
- Anna Kelly will join the White House as Deputy Press Secretary, following her tenure as National Press Secretary for the Republican National Committee.
- Ian Kelley will assume the role of Special Assistant to the President and War Room Director.
- Dylan Johnson will join the White House as Special Assistant to the President and Assistant Communications Director for Special Projects.
- Sonny Joy Nelson will be appointed as Special Assistant to the President and Media Affairs Director.
- Dan Boyle will take on the position of White House Director of Research.
- Johanna Persing will join the White House as Cabinet Communications Director.
- Charyssa Parent will become the Congressional Communications Director at the White House.
- Jacki Kotkiewicz will assume the role of Policy Communications Director.
- Jake Schneider will be appointed as Rapid Response Director at the White House.
In the Office of Public Liaison, several returning and new appointments were also made:
- Jim Goyer will return as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Public Liaison.
- Lynne Patton was appointed as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Minority Outreach.
- Brette Powell will return as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the Office of Public Liaison.
- Hailey Borden will rejoin as Special Assistant to the President and Director of Business Outreach in the Office of Public Liaison.
- Alex Flemister will return as Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Public Liaison.
Meanwhile, in the Cabinet Affairs team, Lea Bardon has been appointed Special Assistant to the President and Director of Cabinet Affairs, with Thomas Bradbury joining as Associate Director for Policy and Cami Connor returning as Associate Director for Agency Outreach.
