Lakshmishree Sivakumar, a student of Indian origin from Wichita East High School’s Class of 2025, has been named a finalist for the Harry Gore Memorial Scholarship.
The Gore Scholarship offers $64,000 to three students each year. The students are selected through the Distinguished Scholarship Invitational and are highly involved leaders at Wichita State University.
Wichita State University has announced 12 high school seniors as finalists for the scholarship. Sivakumar is among them.
Beyond her academic excellence, Sivakumar is a dedicated advocate for social change. She is the founder and CEO of No Plate Left Empty Corporation, a nonprofit organization combatting food insecurity in Kansas.
Sivakumar also founded the Mayura School of Dance, a branch of the No Plate Left Empty corporation. She teaches Bharatnatyam, a classical Indian dance form, to young Indian-American girls.
Sivakumar and her fellow 11 finalists underwent a rigorous selection process, including essay submissions, leadership assessments, and an on-campus competition in November 2024.
The finalists were selected from 551 students who participated in the Nov. 23, 2024, Distinguished Scholarship Invitational.
To qualify, students must meet rigorous academic criteria, including an ACT score of 27 or higher, a GPA of 3.5 or above, and a class ranking in the top 10 percent. This year’s finalists have an average ACT score of 27 and a GPA of 3.88.
They returned to Wichita State University on Jan. 23 for final interviews, where their leadership potential and community impact were further evaluated.
The winners of the 2025 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarship will be announced on Jan. 31 at 11:30 a.m. at the Marcus Welcome Center. All finalists will receive scholarship packages to attend Wichita State University in Fall 2025.
