Largest Ambedkar statue outside India to be unveiled in Maryland

The Ambedkar International Centre (AIC) has announced the unveiling of the tallest statue of B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of India's Constitution, outside of India in Maryland on October 14.
The 'Statue of Equality,' which stands at an impressive 19 feet in height, is a prominent feature of the AIC situated on a sprawling 13-acre plot in Accokeek, Maryland, approximately 35 kilometres south of Washington, D.C.
The esteemed artist and sculptor Ram Sutar, recipient of India's prestigious Padma Shree and renowned for his work, including the construction of the largest Sardar Patel statue in Gujarat, has been chosen to craft this statue. Sutar's impressive portfolio spans over six decades and encompasses more than ninety monumental sculptures in various countries, including India, the USA, France, Argentina, Italy, Russia, and Malaysia. This statue is a replica of the world's largest Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue, standing at 125 feet, which was recently unveiled in Hyderabad.
Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, affectionately known as Babasaheb among his followers, held the position of Chairman of the Constituent Assembly's pivotal Drafting Committee, earning him the well-deserved title of the Architect of the Indian Constitution. After India gained independence, he also served as the Minister of Law and Justice in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's initial cabinet. Ambedkar was a prominent figure in social movements advocating for the rights of Dalits and untouchables.
