Latisha Sharma named UCLA Comprehensive Stroke Center chief

Sharma, a professor of Neurology at UCLA, previously served as the director of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center-UCLA Comprehensive Stroke Center.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Department of Neurology has appointed Latisha Sharma as the new director of the UCLA Comprehensive Stroke Center. 

Sharma, a professor of Neurology at UCLA, previously served as the director of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center-UCLA Comprehensive Stroke Center. Her expertise includes cerebrovascular disease, stroke prevention, and innovative approaches to treating stroke in diverse populations.

 
 



In addition to her new role, Sharma directs the UCLA TeleStroke Program and serves as associate director of the Vascular Neurology Residency Program. She is also co-chair of the Los Angeles Stroke Society and a member of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Prevention Workgroup, the American Heart Association Minority Affairs Committee, and the American Heart Association Stroke Emergency Care Committee.

Sharma succeeds Dr. David Liebeskind, who led the Comprehensive Stroke Center for the past six years. Liebeskind will continue his involvement at the center, leading the Vascular Neurology Fellowship and contributing to clinical care and research, a statement noted.

Founded in 1995, the UCLA Comprehensive Stroke Center is internationally recognized as a leader in the management of cerebral vascular disease.
