Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been detained in California by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials for entering the country with forged travel documents.

The 25-year-old, who fled India in May 2022 using a fake passport under the alias “Bhanu,” was apprehended last week, reigniting efforts to extradite him to India to face charges in multiple high-profile crimes.

Anmol Bishnoi is a key suspect in several criminal cases, including the 2022 shooting outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence. Evidence, including an audio clip of a conversation between Anmol and a gang member, Vicky Gupta, suggests his involvement in planning the attack.

He is also accused of orchestrating the murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead on Jun.6, 2022. Anmol, who had been released on bail shortly before Moosewala’s murder, reportedly fled India under a false identity after the crime.

Indian authorities, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), are in talks with US officials to secure Anmol’s extradition. FBI officials recently met with Indian agency representatives to discuss the case. A Red Corner Notice has been issued for Anmol’s arrest, and the NIA has announced a reward of USD$11847 (₹10 lakh) for information leading to his capture.

The Bishnoi syndicate, led by Lawrence Bishnoi, is one of India’s most notorious organized crime groups, involved in killings, extortion, and smuggling. Anmol’s detention is seen as a major blow to the syndicate, but his extradition is considered essential for dismantling its operations.
