The US Department of State reaffirmed its dedication to thoroughly investigate the purportedly thwarted assassination plot targeting India-designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. They emphasized their communication to the Indian government regarding this matter, urging for a similar investigation.

During the daily press briefing at the US State Department, Mathew Miller, an official spokesperson, stated that the US had not received any report regarding India's internal investigation into the case. He emphasized the US's anticipation of the investigation's outcomes on the Indian side.

“I’m not going to speak to media reports. I will just say that we have made clear to the Government of India that we want to see them conduct a full investigation, and we continue to look forward to the results of that investigation, but I don’t have any updates to offer,” Spokesperson Matthew Miller said during the press briefing.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, identified as an India-designated terrorist, holds citizenship in both the United States and Canada. He has been known to make repeated threats against India.

According to the US Justice Department indictment, Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national currently in custody, has been charged with the murder-for-hire of Pannun. The indictment alleges that a member of the Indian government, who remains unnamed, recruited Gupta to hire a hitman to allegedly assassinate Pannun. This plot was reportedly foiled by US authorities.

Miller was asked about the US' stance on political prisoners in Pakistan, particularly in light of its support for Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal. “I would not agree with that characterization. We have made clear on a number of occasions that we want to see everyone in Pakistan treated consistent with the rule of law, treated with respect for human rights, as is our position with respect to any country in the world,” he said.
