Indian marathon runner Man Singh won the gold medal at the Asian Marathon Championships 2024 in Hong Kong, China, with a timing of 2:14:19.

The 34-year-old athlete became only the second Indian to be crowned as the Asian marathon champion, following Thonakal Gopi's achievement in 2017 in Dongguan, China.

Singh defeated the People’s Republic of China’s Huang Yongzheng with a 65-second lead. Kyrgyzstan’s Tiapkin Ilya secured the third position with a timing of 2:18:18.

In doing so, he not only became the second Indian to claim the title, but also surpassed his own personal best, which was 2:16:58. The athlete beat his previous timing achieved at the Mumbai Marathon in 2023 by 2 minutes 39 seconds.

However, India’s national record in men’s marathon, held by Shivnath Singh at 2:12:00 since 1978, remains unbeaten.

Man Singh was not the sole representative of India at the Asian Marathon Championships 2024. Belliappa Appachangada Bo, Ashvini Jadhav, and Jyoti Gawate also participated in the events, finishing 6th, 8th, and 11th respectively.
