Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen named AAPI ‘Change Maker’

Bobbie Singh-Allen, Punjabi American mayor of Elk Grove, has been named in the Sacramento Bee’s list of 2023 Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Change Makers, along with three other Sacramento State alumni.

According to the Bee, Change Makers are individuals who "push the boundaries, foster community, and lead with dedication. They care for their community and strive to transform the world around them." In total, 20 individuals were acknowledged for their contributions.

Singh-Allen was elected as Mayor of Elk Grove in November 2020. Prior to this, she was appointed to the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees and then elected to serve two consecutive four-year terms. During her tenure, she also served as board president for two years. 

She played a significant role in steering the fifth-largest school district towards strong financial reserves, fostering stronger relationships between management and labor, and implementing robust Career and Technical Education programs, among other aspects. She has accumulated over two decades of experience advocating for the private sector. 

Throughout her career, Singh-Allen has held leadership roles in statewide associations, championing industries such as the hotel and lodging sector, gas stations and convenience stores, and housing and community development companies. 

Furthermore, she has served as a government relations-public affairs consultant, providing expertise to various clients on matters like land use development, affordable housing, real estate, and other pertinent issues.

In addition to her current roles, she serves as an elected State Commissioner for Visit California, along with representing the City of Elk Grove on various boards and commissions such as the Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC), Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA), and Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT), among others. 

In 2015, Singh-Allen was honored as "Woman of the Year" for Assembly District 9 by Jim Cooper, former Assemblymember and current Sheriff. She obtained her J.D. from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento and earned her B.A. in Government from California State University.
