MBA presents Distinguished Service Award to Shekar Narasimhan

The Mortgage Bankers Association presented its 2024 Commercial Real Estate Finance (CREF) Distinguished Service Award to Indian American entrepreneur Shekar Narasimhanat its Commercial/Multifamily Finance Convention and Expo in San Diego on February 12.

The award, the highest distinction awarded to an individual by fellow MBA CREF members, recognised Narasimhan's significant contributions to the commercial real estate finance sector and his continuous dedication to furthering the industry's ambitions.

“Shekar has been a leading voice and passionate leader for MBA and the commercial real estate industry throughout his career, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of being recognized with this prestigious award,” said Mark Jones, MBA's 2024 chairman and president of Union Home Mortgage.

Currently the managing partner of Beekman Advisors Inc., Narasimhan offers strategic consultancy services to corporations and investors in the real estate finance sector. Prior to joining Beekman, he was a managing director at Prudential Mortgage Capital Company. He formerly served as chairman and CEO of the WMF Group, which was acquired by Prudential in 2000.

The Indian American also co-founded the Remergent Communities Fund, an Opportunity Zone Fund focused on small towns and localities in the Southeast United States, and serves as chairman of Papillon Capital.

Narasimhan is a former chairman and commissioner of the Virginia Housing Development Authority. In addition, he served on the Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development and as a commissioner on President Obama's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

The IIT-Delhi graduate has previously received numerous awards and recognition in the real estate industry including the MBA’s highest honor in 1999 and the Fannie Mae Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Dean H.J. Zoffer Distinguished Service Medal from the University of Pittsburgh.  Pennsylvania.
