Aarti Kohli, executive director of the Asian Law Caucus (ALC), is at the forefront of a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s executive order (EO) that seeks to strip certain newborns of their US citizenship. Kohli, along with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), State Democracy Defenders Fund (SDDF), and other civil rights organizations, filed the lawsuit in New Hampshire on Jan.20, asserting that the order is unconstitutional and undermines American values.
Kohli has been an advocate for immigrant rights for years. As the leader of ALC, the nation’s first legal aid and civil rights organization serving low-income Asian Pacific American communities, Kohli has been an outspoken voice for those whose rights are at risk. The ALC’s mission includes advocating for housing, labor, civil rights, and immigration reforms, with a particular focus on supporting marginalized immigrant communities. Under Kohli’s leadership, the ALC has fought to uphold the rights of immigrants in the United States, a mission that directly aligns with her stance against Trump’s EO.
