Indian American actor and comedian Mindy Kaling made her ninth appearance at the Met Gala, hosted by the Museum of Modern Art's Costume Institute on May.6, 2024.
The Mindy Project actress arrived wearing a champagne-colored gown with a floral motif, adhering to the event's "Garden of Time" dress code.
Dubbed the “The Melting Flower of Time”, her gown was designed by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta who also created the a similar looking outfit worn by Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2022.
Gupta wrote on his X, “Mindy radiates grace, making her the ideal muse for this design.”

In an Instagram post Kaling wrote, “ The name of my gown was "The Melting Flower of Time". I was so honored to wear the genius @gauravguptaofficial to the Met Gala this year. The cape was inspired by a blooming flower, and his signature sculptural techniques evoked the passage of time. Thank you Gaurav, @voguemagazine and the team of artists who designed my look!”
This year's appearance marks yet another milestone in Kaling's Met Gala repertoire, which spans back to her debut in 2013. Over the years, she has consistently captivated audiences with her distinctive fashion choices, from vibrant hues to intricate designs.
In previous interviews, The Office actress has discussed her meticulous approach to red carpet appearances, emphasizing the importance of preparation and collaboration with designers. Her latest Met Gala appearance reaffirms her status as a prominent figure in Hollywood's fashion landscape.
Co-chaired by prominent figures including Anna Wintour and Zendaya, the event attracted attention from both the entertainment and fashion industries.
The carpet was also graced by other South Asians such as Alia Bhatt, Ambika Mod, Isha Ambani and Natasha Poonawalla.
