Netflix has announced that Running Point, upcoming sports comedy series created by Mindy Kaling, will premiere on Feb. 27.
The series, starring Kate Hudson, takes viewers into the high-stakes world of professional basketball with a comedic twist. Kaling, who also serves as an executive producer, developed the series alongside Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen.
The story follows Isla Gordon (played by Hudson), a Los Angeles executive who is thrust into the role of president of her family’s basketball franchise, the Los Angeles Waves, after a scandal forces her brother to step down. Isla must prove herself in a male-dominated industry while juggling family dynamics and the intense scrutiny of the sports world.
The cast includes Max Greenfield as Isla’s fiancé, Brenda Song as a senior team staffer, and Scott MacArthur and Drew Tarver as Isla’s brothers. Other notable cast members include Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, and Jay Ellis.
Running Point was announced nearly four years ago, originally as an untitled Lakers-inspired project. After undergoing several creative changes, the series began production in early 2024 in Los Angeles. The first official look at the series was revealed at Netflix’s Upfront presentation, where Hudson and Kaling unveiled the title and promotional images.
The 10-episode series is produced by Kaling International in partnership with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers include Kaling, Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis, and Hudson.
