A 12-year-old girl has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Bhim Kohli, an 80-year-old Indian-origin grandfather who was assaulted while walking his dog in a park near Leicester in September. This marks the second charge in the case involving minors.
Leicestershire Police confirmed that the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Leicester Youth Court at Leicester Magistrates' Court.
The case began with the tragic incident on Sep.1, when Kohli was attacked at Franklin Park in Braunstone Town. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Sep. 2. A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as a neck injury sustained during the assault.
Earlier, a 15-year-old boy, who was 14 at the time of the incident, was charged with Kohli's murder. He remains in custody and is scheduled to enter a plea at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday. A provisional trial date has been set for Feb.17.
The investigation initially led to the arrest of five minors, including a 14-year-old boy, a girl of the same age, two 12-year-old girls, and a 12-year-old boy. While the 14-year-old boy has since been charged with murder, the other four were released without further action.
With two suspects now formally charged, Leicestershire Police have assured that the investigation will continue to gather further details about the case.
