The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), the largest hotel owners association in the world, announced the appointment of Miraj S. Patel, as its newest chairman.
Patel's ascension to the position marks a significant milestone in AAHOA's 35-year history, as he becomes the youngest chairman to lead the organization. He took over the reigns at the conclusion of the 2024 AAHOA Convention & Trade Show in Orlando, Florida.
A second-generation hotelier from Texas, Patel currently serves as the president of Wayside Investment Group, a company that specializes in making opportunistic investments in the lodging and hospitality real estate.
“It is an honor to serve America’s hotel owners as the newest AAHOA chairman,” Patel said. “I am committed to helping solve some of the industry’s toughest challenges with simple and straightforward solutions and to putting our members at the center of every decision we make.”
Patel's exposure to the industry began at a tender age, nurtured by his family's independent hotel venture. His passion for hospitality led him to pursue higher education, culminating in a Master's in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Lodging Management from Johnson and Wales University in Miami, FL.

Patel joined AAHOA as a committee member and gradually ascended the ranks, eventually serving as the young professional director for the western division. “Serving as the youngest chair in the association’s history further demonstrates AAHOA’s commitment to fostering the growth and success of the next generation,” Patel said.
“I’m always encouraging young professionals not to let age determine success. Many times, people may say you’re too young, but that is absolutely not true. There are so many folks who are young but still do whatever it takes to find success. If you never try, you’ll never know what you’re capable of achieving.”
Beyond his professional endeavors, Patel is known for his philanthropic efforts and community engagement. He actively participates in charitable organizations and industry associations, embodying AAHOA's commitment to making a positive impact beyond the boardroom.
AAHOA, the largest hotel owners association globally, represents a formidable force in the hospitality landscape. Its 20,000 members collectively own 60 percent of hotels in the United States, contributing significantly to the nation’s economy.
Under Patel’s leadership, AAHOA is poised to continue its mission of advancing and protecting the business interests of hotel owners through advocacy, industry leadership, professional development, member benefits, and community engagement, a statement said.
