Missions in US strengthening student outreach: Indian Govt
The government emphasised its embassy and consulates in the United States have strengthened its outreach to the student community

In view of the recent killings of Indian students in the United States, India has assured strengthening of its outreach to students through its embassy and consulates present in the country.
Terming the deaths as “unfortunate”, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a briefing, “The recent cases of killings are currently being investigated and hopefully we will get to know the reasons behind it. The consulates have extended all possible assistance.”
“Our consulates and mission in the United States have strengthened their student outreach so that they can provide any kind of help to the students and can convey how they can stay safe and secure,” he further said.
Giving more details behind the cause of deaths the MEA spokesperson said that over 10 Indian students have passed away since the beginning of 2024 due to various causes such as community issues, suicide, and mental illness related issues.
This month a 25-year-old Indian student was found dead in Cleveland city, US. Mohammed Abdul Arftah’s demise is the 11th death of an Indian student. In the same month another student of Indian origin, Uma Satya Sai Gadde, was found dead under mysterious circumstances.
However, the most shocking was the death of 25-year-old Indian student Vivek Saini in January. Saini was killed by a drug addict at a convenience store where he worked. Jaiswal said the government is in touch with the authorities on this case. “We are pushing very hard,” he asserted.
