MLC team Seattle Orcas launches cricket equipment drive

The drive launched on Dec 9 will run till Jan 6, and encourage donations of new or gently-used cricket and sports gear.

In an effort to make cricket more accessible to young athletes in the Seattle area, Seattle Orcas, an American professional Twenty20 cricket team has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue to launch a Holiday Cricket and Sports Equipment Drive.

The drive launched on Dec 9 will run till Jan 6, and encourage donations of new or gently-used cricket and sports gear.  The equipment collected will be distributed to young players in the Seattle area.

Hemant Dua, CEO of the Seattle Orcas, highlighted the significance of the effort, stating, “We’re thrilled to work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue to share the joy of cricket with young people who may not have access to equipment. This drive is an opportunity to foster community connections and support the next generation of cricketers.”

The initiative reflects growing efforts to promote cricket at a grassroots level in the United States, where the sport is gaining popularity. The Orcas, one of Major League Cricket’s franchises, have emphasized their commitment to community outreach alongside their on-field performance.

Drop-off locations for the donations include the Downtown Clubhouse at 209 100th Avenue NE 
and the Hidden Valley Fieldhouse at 1903 112th Avenue NE in Bellevue.
