The Mayor of Montgomery Township, New Jersey, Neena Singh officially endorsed New York State Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar in her campaign for New York City Public Advocate.
Singh, who made history in January 2024 as the first Sikh and Indian-American woman to serve as mayor in New Jersey, praised Rajkumar's leadership and achievements.

"As Mayor of Montgomery Township, New Jersey, I know how important it is to have a woman of Jenifer Rajkumar's caliber in an executive leadership position," Singh stated.
"Jenifer is not only a trailblazing leader—she is the pride of the South Asian American community. From passing impossible wins like the New York Diwali School Holiday to directing immigration policy for the entire State of New York, she has opened doors of opportunity for all,” she added.
Singh also emphasized their shared heritage, noting, "As a fellow Punjabi woman, I am proud to support the best and the brightest—an Ivy League graduate, a Stanford Law-trained civil rights lawyer, and a fearless public servant. Jenifer Rajkumar has my full support for Public Advocate of New York City."
Rajkumar, who announced her candidacy for Public Advocate earlier this year, expressed gratitude for the endorsement. "Honored to be endorsed by Mayor Neena Singh of Montgomery Township, NJ—a trailblazing leader. Our campaign continues to earn the support of pathbreakers across the country who believe in a new generation of leadership that delivers for working people," she shared on social media.
In addition to Singh's endorsement, Rajkumar has received support from other prominent Indian American leaders such as U.S. Congressmen Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Shri Thanedar (D-MI).
Khanna described Rajkumar as "the future of the Democratic Party in New York," highlighting her advocacy for women's rights, healthcare, and immigrant communities. Thanedar praised her as "a fighter for quality-of-life issues that matter to everyday New Yorkers."
Mayor Sam Joshi of Edison, New Jersey, the youngest and first South Asian mayor in the city's history, also endorsed Rajkumar.
Rajkumar's campaign has also been bolstered by endorsements from local leaders in Queens, including State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Assembly members David Weprin, Nily Rozic, and Sam Berger.
