MP Tabla event enters Guinness World record
The Tabla Darbar event in Indian state of Madhya Pradesh witnessed over 1,600 people play tabla

At the "Tabla Darbar" event at Gwalior Fort on Monday, Dec.25 over 1,600 people played the tabla, setting a Guinness World Record for the largest group of people playing tabla at once.
Speaker of the Assembly Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Yadav were also in attendance at the event.
Commemorating the achievement, Chief Minister Yadav declared December 25 to be "Tabla Divas," in the state. He announced the record, on his social media platform X, formerly twitter.
“The performance of 1,282 tabla players simultaneously in the 'Taal Darbar' program organized under the 'Tansen Festival' in the music city of Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, has done an unprecedented job of registering its name in the "Guinness Book of World Records". I congratulate and extend best wishes all these artists of the music world, who have made commendable efforts to take Indian music to this dimension.”

The “Tabla Darbar” event was a component of Gwalior's yearly music festival, "Tansen Samaroh” a four-day musical fest celebrated every year in the month of December to pay tribute to the great Indian musical maestro Tansen.
Together, the 1,600 tabla players from various Indian states performed a lively and well-coordinated set of tabla music to break the world record. To personally oversee and document the 'Tabla Darbar' performance at Gwalior Fort, a three-person Guinness Book of World Records team was present.
The artists were from over fifty Indian cities, including Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata, Mumbai, and West Bengal.
Prior to the historic performance, local performers who competed in the "Tabla Darbar" event had been reportedly rehearsing nonstop at the Raja Mansingh Tomar Music University in Gwalior.
Gwalior has been designated as a 'City of Music' by UNESCO. This makes it the third city in the world to hold this distinction.
