Indian Americans were the wealthiest immigrant group in a tweet shared by billionaire Elon Musk highlighting the success of immigrants in the United States of America.
“Wow, America really is the land of opportunity!,” Musk said in his post sharing a 2018 survey that showcased the median household income of various ethnic groups that have migrated to the country.
The infographic was based on data compiled by the US Census Bureau. It focused mainly on Asian immigrant group. Notably, Indian Americans emerged as the wealthiest, with the highest median annual household income of $119,858.

Indians were followed by Taiwanese Americans, Chinese Americans, and Japanese Americans. The data set also showed that Pakistani Americans have a median household income of $77,315, ranking fifth in the table.
It included median household incomes for Filipino, Korean, Cambodian, Hmong, and Vietnamese Americans, all of whom have higher median household incomes than White Americans, who had a median income of $65,902.
According to a study by the Pew Research Center released last year, the median wealth of immigrant households increased by 42 percent from Dec. 2019 to Dec. 2021, while the median wealth of U.S.-born households increased by 29 percent.
Nonetheless, in 2021, immigrant households had significantly less wealth than those headed by a U.S.-born person, with $104,400 compared to $177,200.
In another study, Pew revealed that Asian women make nearly as much as White men. The ratio for White women stood at 83 percent, aligning with the overall earnings gap, while Asian women were closer to parity with White men, earning 93 percent as much.
