Indian actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has been cast in the film directed by Sekhar Kammula, which also stars Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna. The film tentatively called D51 will be produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under the banners of Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations Private Limited.

The film's producers have officially announced that Telugu actor Nagarjuna has joined the project. The producers added in the statement that the film requires a powerhouse talent like Akkineni. The film is set to be released in three languages: Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The cinematographer and music director of the film are expected to be announced soon.

"Watching both stars in one frame will truly be a treat for fans of both the actors," the director was quoted saying in a report by Deccan Chronicle, adding that the Telugu film industry stardom liked the script and his character design and came on board.

"We were looking for a star performer to make the film a truly multi-starrer and further make the script gripping with solid performances. While we were weighing our options, we believed Nag Sir would be ideal for the part given his experience and knowledge over the craft. Producer Suniel Narang too believed that Nag Sir can light up the screen with his charisma, and take the narrative to the next level," he added.

Dhanush had previously planned to cast Nagarjuna Akkineni in the lead role in his second directorial, but that plan did not materialize, and the former began his second directorial venture with a new team, according to the Times of India.

Dhanush is currently working on Captain Miller, a film directed by Arun Matheswaran that will be released on December 15, 2023. Meanwhile, Nagarjuna Akkineni's Naa Saami Ranga, starring Subramanyam Pacha, is set to be released in January 2024. The teaser for the film was recently released.
