The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has asked External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to start a direct flight between San Francisco and Amritsar. In a letter on Nov. 11, NAPA executive director Satnam Singh Chahal highlighted the role of air connectivity in boosting relations and cultural, economic, and social ties.
Chahal pointed out that while there are many flights between Indian cities and other international destinations, there is no direct flight between San Francisco and Amritsar, which has been a concern for the Indian diaspora and business communities in both places.

San Francisco, known for its technology and innovation, is home to a large Indian community, including many Sikhs with close ties to Punjab. Amritsar, on the other hand, is a major religious and tourist destination. A direct flight between the two cities would reduce travel time, make travel more convenient, and boost tourism, trade, and investment, Chahal said.
The new route could also help airlines expand their services, stimulate economic growth, and encourage cultural exchanges, enhancing educational and social connections between the United States and India.
