Neera Tanden, the director of the Domestic Policy Council of the United States said that under President Biden the government truly looks like America.

Tanden made the remarks during her speech at the ‘Lasting Legacies’ 25th anniversary celebration of the White House Initiative and the President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) held on May.13 at the Andrew. W. Mellon auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, Tanden emphasized that for a long time the AANHPI community was invisible for the government and the leaders but that has changed since the community has been actively engaging in politics.

“It's been a lot of work by leaders in this room to ensure that our government truly looks like America and truly reflects the value of every aspect of the AA and NHPI Community. And I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you,” she said.

Highlighting that the Domestic Policy Council is focused on efforts such as expanding and building capacity for disaggregated data and reducing barriers for people with limited English proficiency, Tanden reiterated the president’s commitment to promote inclusion in the country.

“I am so proud to be part of an Administration led by the President and the Vice President who see all of us, who want all of us to be at the table, which is also making our government work, better for all Americans,” she added.

The event was held as part of the AANHPI Heritage Month celebrations which is held across the country during the month of May to honor and recognize the contributions of the community to America.
