Neeraj Chopra nominated for World Athlete of the year Award

The nominations reflect some of the standout performances achieved at the World Athletics Championships

Olympic, World and Asian Games javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra is among the 11 nominees on the list for the men's World Athlete of the year award, as announced by World Athletics.

The voting for the 2023 World Athletes of the Year has officially begun this week in preparation for the 2023 Awards. The voting will end on October 28 at and the results winners will be announced on December 11.

With a throw of 88.67 meters in May 2023, Chopra secured first place in the Doha Diamond League. He achieved first place in the World Athletics rankings for the men's javelin throw that same month for the first time.

The 25-year-old athlete won the gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in August with a throw of 88.17 metres. He earned the another gold medal in the Asian Games in October 2023 with a throw of 88.88 meters, which was his season’s best.

Ryan Crouser, shot put thrower from USA, Mondo Duplantis, pole vault athelete from Sweden, Soufiane El Bakkali long-distance runner from Morocco, Jakob Ingebrigtsen long-distance runner from Norway, Kelvin Kiptum, marathon runner from Kenya, and a few other World class athletes were also nominated for the award.

An international panel of athletics specialists, which included members from each of World Athletics' six continental regions, chose the athletes. A three-way vote will choose the finalists. Fans can vote online via the World Athletics social media channels.
