Indian Javelin Ace, Neeraj Chopra brought pride to the nation once again by claiming the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.
The Olympic Gold medalist converted his last year’s silver into gold with a throw 88.17 meters. In doing so, he became the first-ever Indian athlete to secure a gold medal at the World championships.
The latest medal also adds to Chopra’s collection of major titles in the sport including the Diamond League title (2022), Asian Athletics Championships title (2017), Asian Games title (2018), Commonwealth Games title (2018), and the Junior World Championships title in 2016.
“After the Olympic gold I really wanted to win the world championships. I just wanted to throw further. This is brilliant for the national team but it was my dream to win gold at the world championships,” Chopra was quoted as saying after his performance. “This has been a great championships for India and I am proud to bring another title to my country.”
Praising the athlete, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The talented @Neeraj_chopra1 exemplifies excellence. His dedication, precision and passion make him not just a champion in athletics but a symbol of unparalleled excellence in the entire sports world. Congrats to him for winning the Gold at the World Athletics Championships.
