As a celebration of the game and community, on Sept. 21, the South Asian Golf Association (SAGA) hosted the twentieth annual Golf Outing, a friendly competition for over 70 golfers. The tournament was held at Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Lawrence Township, New Jersey.
Deep Thapliyal won the Anish Joshi Memorial Trophy as the 2024 Tour Champion. Varun Malhotra came second, and Amit Parekh third in the tournament.
The Tour Champion is awarded the Anish Joshi Memorial Trophy, which includes a one-week vacation anywhere in the world. This reward is donated by Anil and Anju Joshi, parents of late Anish Joshi who was a former member and strong supporter.
The Flight 2 winners included Niraj Desai, first, then Jassi Singh second, and Shashi Gautam, third.
Ankit Patel first, Haresh Majmundar second and Jayesh Parikh third were the winners of Flight 3.
Ronak Patel, who lowered his handicap from 20.3 to 14.7, was named Most Improved Golfer. Santosh Hanumaiah carded the Low Gross Score of 75, winning in a tie-breaker against Abdhullah Vohra.
‘The Gate Squad’ Team, led by captain Deep Thapliyal, won the UnitedHealthcare Cup, the winning team included Amit Parekh, Varun Malhotra, Shashi Gautam, Sachin Mally, Sanjay Seth, Ashish Shah, and Uday Patel.
As part of SAGA’s commitment to young talent, three students also received SAGA Junior / Anish Joshi College Scholarships of $1,650 each for their academic and golfing achievements: Tanya Chowdary (Bentley University, MA), Tanvi Samayam (Nova Southeastern University, FL), and Vikram Bajaj (Stonybrook University, NY).
The SAGA Open, has become a premier event for the South Asian golfing community. In this year's final tournament, seasoned players and newcomers competed for prestigious prizes, including a Mercedes-Benz for a hole-in-one, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Princeton.
After the tournament, the golfers attended the award ceremony and celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the SAGA Golf Open in the ballroom.
SAGA founder and president Mahesh Yadav thanked participants, sponsors, and volunteers for making the event a success.
The tournament was sponsored by UnitedHealthcare, NJ Group Services, Prajapati & Company, Optima Global Solutions, TV Asia, and other valued partners, the SAGA Open has become a top golfing event for South Asians in the U.S.
