Leading life insurance agency, New York Life Insurance, has expanded its Artificial Intelligence and Data (AI&D) team with the hiring of two Indian Americans in senior roles.
Vikas Sharma was named chief data officer and Achuth Rao was appointed as head of AI&D product management. Both will report to Don Vu, chief data and analytics officer, and will work closely with the AI&D leadership team, including chief data science officer Alain Biem.
“Accelerating New York Life’s innovation and evolution in the AI and data space is critical to enhancing the experiences we deliver to our stakeholders and driving operational efficiency,” said Vu. “Vikas, Achuth, and their teams will help enable us to advance our data ecosystem and deliver high-quality, impactful, and scalable AI and data solutions across the enterprise.”
Sharma brings over 20 years of experience in data and digital transformation. Prior to joining New York Life, he was chief data and analytics officer at Farm Credit Bank of Texas, where he modernized the data ecosystem and implemented AI-powered analytics. His background also includes leadership roles at Capital One, Warner Media/HBO Max, and Walmart.
Sharma holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Marathwada University, India.
Rao will lead the newly created AI&D product management team, focusing on developing AI and data products to create value for New York Life’s customers, agents, and employees.
He has over 25 years of experience in product management, business development, and AI-driven digital platforms. He previously served as general manager and vice president of product management for ADP Data Cloud at ADP.
Rao holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business.
